How to Apply for a Tender in Kenya — Step-by-Step Guide | Bidnexis

🇰🇪 How to apply for a tender in Kenya

Never bid before? Follow these 7 steps. Each one shows what to do, and how Bidnexis helps.

1. Find a tender you can deliver

A tender is a buyer asking companies to offer a price for goods, works or services. Start with work your business already does, and that you can deliver in Kenya.

On Bidnexis: There are 188 open tenders in Kenya right now. Search by sector and closing date, and set an alert so matching tenders reach you by email.

2. Understand what the buyer wants

Read the full notice: what is being bought, the closing date, where and how to submit, and whether a bid security is required.

On Bidnexis: Press Summarize on any tender for the key facts in 30 seconds, then open the full notice and documents.

3. Check that you qualify

Most tenders in Kenya need a registered business and up-to-date tax documents. Some also ask for licences, past experience or a minimum turnover. Check this before you spend time on a bid.

On Bidnexis: Run the VERA Eligibility Check. It compares the tender with your company profile and shows what is missing.

4. Get your documents ready

Usually your company registration from the Registrar of Companies (through eCitizen), a KRA Tax Compliance Certificate, your company profile and references. The exact list is always in the tender document.

On Bidnexis: Open Requirements on the tender for a checklist, and keep your documents in one place in your profile. We remind you before they expire.

5. Prepare your bid

Answer every requirement in the order the buyer asks. Most bids have a technical part (how you will do the work) and a financial part (your price).

On Bidnexis: Open a Bid Workspace for the tender to track your documents and draft your bid with VERA. Always read and correct a draft before you use it.

6. Submit before the closing date

Submit exactly the way the notice says, whether on an e-procurement portal, by email or as sealed hard copies. Late bids are normally rejected, so submit early.

On Bidnexis: Where we have it, the official notice link on the tender takes you to the source. Your bid goes directly to the buyer: Bidnexis does not submit it for you.

7. Follow up and learn

Buyers open bids, evaluate them, then announce a result. If you do not win, ask for feedback where the process allows it. Every bid makes the next one easier.

On Bidnexis: Track each bid in your workspace, and use what you learned on your next tender.

Bidding in Kenya?

Government tenders in Kenya are published on the Public Procurement Information Portal, and county governments run their own procurement offices. If your business is owned by youth, women or persons with disabilities, register for AGPO: part of government procurement is reserved for these groups.
